- Serve as liaison for assigned inpatient care unit to ensure meal service, orders, and delivery needs are met.
- Respond to meal service related calls and pages from patients and resolve or refer problems to appropriate individual.
- Interact and coordinate with doctors, nurses, dietitians, health care assistants and unit coordinators to ensure nutritional orders are accurate and patient dietary needs are met efficiently.
- Explain Nutrition Care Services program to patients, collect personal preferences, record meal requests, and deliver each meal of the day.
- Input all special nutrition requests and personal preferences into nutrition software system correctly and timely.
- Manage special requests made by patients or families and determine when to refer questions to nutrition care technicians, dietitians, or supervisors.
- Assist patients with making nutrition selections that are compliant with their diet.
- May collect trays and clean patient care unit galley after meals.
- May prepare patient areas for trays prior to meals and deliver appropriate tray to each patient.
- Perform essential functions of the job.
- Demonstrate communication and human relations skills.
- Show knowledge of nutrition to understand special diet orders.
- Work as a team player and as an individual.
- Handle customer issues or complaints appropriately.
- One year of customer service experience.
- One of the indicated food handling permits obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Complete hospital provided nutrition exam within one month of hire.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Food service experience.
- Current Utah Food Handler Permit or Current Food Protection Manager certification (ANSI) or other license as determined by hiring department. Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, while providing patient care.
- Employee may stand and walk for sustained periods of time.
- Carrying, Climbing, Color Determination, Crawling, Far Vision, Lifting, Listening, Manual Dexterity, Near Vision, Pulling and/or Pushing, Reaching, Sitting, Speaking, Standing, Stooping and Crouching, Tasting or Smelling, Walking
