Sterilization Technician

Responsibilities- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies according to established procedures.
- Verify functionality of equipment and repair or replace defective instruments.
- Sort, assemble, and make instrument trays and equipment available to sterile processing customers promptly.
- Assemble special procedure trays, surgical instrument trays, and case carts.
- Deliver sterilized supplies and retrieve used supplies from hospital and clinic locations.
- Inspect instruments and equipment, replenishing low, broken, or missing items.
- Document patient charges for the use of supplies and procedure trays.
- Monitor biological and chemical indicators to ensure quality and consistency of sterilization.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Detect blood remaining on instruments before proceeding with sterilization.
- Perform environmental maintenance duties and maintain inventory levels.
- Communicate effectively with clients and customers to meet expectations.
- Utilize knowledge of sterilizers and methods; determine alternative supplies when unavailable; prioritize workload.
- Wear appropriate protective attire.
- Work on‑call, weekends, holidays, and rotate shifts as needed.
- Entry level position.
- Experience in a medical setting.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds; lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving items may be required.
- Exposure to contaminated body fluids, used needles, blades, bone shavings, glass, and other hazards; continuous protective attire required.
- Standing or walking for prolonged periods.
- Carrying, climbing, color determination, crawling, far vision, lifting, listening, manual dexterity, near vision, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, speaking, standing, stooping, tasting, smelling, walking.
