Entry Level Firefighter - August 2026 Academy (Recruit Class 58)
Job Description
We are looking for Entry Level Firefighters to join our Salt Lake City team!
Salary Range
: $61,349 to $87,565 annually.
Salt Lake City Firefighters perform fire suppression, rescue, and property conservation activities. Firefighters act as first responders as they provide basic life support and emergency care to sudden illness or accident victims. This position will also participate in or conduct fire prevention activities including inspection, code enforcement, and public education, as well as participate in drills and other department training activities.
This is specialized work performed in accordance with National and Salt Lake City Fire Department performance and training standards. All persons hired in this position are required to achieve journey-level certification by completing a Utah State Department of Labor recognized and approved apprenticeship program.
About The TeamThe Salt Lake City Fire Department has over 350 members serving 200,000 residents, with a business and tourism population that nearly doubles this number, within the city's 110 square miles.
Work ScheduleWe operate on a three-platoon system with crews rotating every 48 hours across 14 fire stations. Firefighters work one 48-hour consecutive shift and then are scheduled off for 96 hours.

Minimum QualificationsApplicants must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, possess a valid driver's license, and be eligible to work in the US on or before the day the applicant takes the written exam.
Application ProcessTo apply for this position, interested candidates must complete an online application through Workday prior to the Final date to receive applications. Candidates may upload their NREMT/Utah paramedic certificate and/or DD-214 (or related documents) if applicable. They are not required.
In addition to the application, candidates must complete the National Testing Network (NTN) Written Exam,
and a National Testing Network (NTN) Online Video Recorded Interview no later than February 28, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (MST) to be considered. Candidates can sign up for the NTN Written Exam here:
The NTN Online Interview is accessed in the candidate's NTN portal.
It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure their NTN FireTEAM exam score, and NTN online interview are valid and complete when the hiring list is pulled on March 1, 2026. If using a previous NTN FireTEAM score, candidates must log into their NTN account and send that score to SLCFD for the Class 58 application cycle. It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure the email used on their NTN account matches the email used to complete the job application for SLCFD on Workday.
Candidates will not be considered if the emails do not match. Candidates are highly encouraged to complete the required tasks promptly to ensure timely completion and to address any unforeseen issues that may arise.
Upon the closing of the application period, the highest-scoring candidates from the NTN written exam and online video interview will be required to attend a mandatory, in-person Field Day Skills Assessment.
