Specializing in services to the railroad, construction, industrial, utility, and government sectors, they offer comprehensive solutions including 24/7 emergency response, environmental remediation, and infrastructure construction.
About the position. The Corporate Controller is a senior financial leader responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls within a private-equity-backed construction organization. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate percentage-of-completion (POC) and work-in-progress (WIP) accounting, consolidated financial reporting across multiple lines of business, and compliance with multi-state regulatory requirements.
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Corporate Controller partners closely with executive leadership, operations, project teams, and external auditors to support financial integrity, scalability, and data-driven decision making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
- Prepare and review consolidated financial reporting across multiple operating entities and lines of business.
- Ensure financial statements comply with GAAP and private-equity reporting standards.
- Develop and maintain reporting packages for executive leadership and PE sponsors.
- Ensure close outputs are repeatable, predictable, and analytically sound, with minimal post-close adjustments or rework.
Construction Accounting (POC/WIP)
- Own and oversee percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting, including revenue recognition, cost tracking, and margin analysis.
- Own the integrity of WIP forecasts, including the implementation and ongoing enforcement of standardized job cost and project forecasting processes across the organization; review production quantities, cost-to-complete assumptions, and margin movements; and proactively flag profit fade/gain and execution risk to the CFO and operations leadership. Partner closely with Project Controls and Operations to ensure alignment between field-level reporting, job cost systems, and financial reporting outputs.
Identify and proactively address risks related to job profitability, cost overruns, and revenue recognition.
Multi-State & Complex Operations
- Manage accounting complexities associated with multi-state operations, including payroll allocations, sales/use tax considerations, and entity-level compliance.
- Ensure consistent accounting policies and procedures across all operating locations.
- Support entity structuring and intercompany transactions.
Cash Flow & Treasury Support
- Partner with the CFO on cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and working capital management.
- Monitor AR/AP trends, retention balances, and project cash cycles.
- Support lender reporting and covenant compliance, as applicable.
- Support lender, surety, and bonding reporting requirements, ensuring WIP, backlog, and financial schedules are always audit- and diligence-ready.
Audit, Controls and PE Governance
- Serve as primary contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party providers.
- Lead audit readiness efforts, including documentation, schedules, and internal control support.
