Position SummaryThe Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial stability and integrity of Planned Parenthood Association of Utah by maintaining accurate financial records and assisting with core accounting functions. This position is responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, supporting month‑end and year‑end close processes, and assisting with financial reporting and compliance activities. Working closely with the Controller and finance team, the Staff Accountant helps ensure adherence to GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory requirements, while contributing to budgeting, forecasting, audits, and process improvements that support the organization’s mission and long‑term sustainability.
EssentialJob Functions
- Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Reconcile bank statements and accounts payable/accounts receivable balances.
- Assist in preparing financial statements, dashboards, and management reports.
- Support internal and external audits by compiling documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal financial policies and procedures.
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies, investigate variances, and recommend solutions.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Support tax filings, regulatory reporting, and other compliance submissions as needed.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and data flow.
- Support tracking and reporting of restricted funds, grants, and donations to ensure funds are used and reported in compliance with donor and grant requirements.
- Assist in reconciling patient service revenue, donations, and other income streams in coordination with operations, billing, or development teams.
- Participate in maintaining and strengthening internal controls, segregation of duties, and documentation to support audit readiness.
- Assist with maintaining account mappings, chart of accounts updates, system upgrades, or transitions related to accounting or ERP systems.
- Assist in allocating shared costs across departments, programs, or funding sources in alignment with financial and reporting requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Experience supporting month-end close processes strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and accounting software is an advantage.
- Nonprofit, healthcare, or grant-funded experience is a plus, but not required.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis).
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
