The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is seeking an Environmental Inspector to join our Salt Lake City office. The role supports all environmental compliance projects, including stormwater inspections, compliance monitoring, soil and water sampling, and reporting. Field locations include UT, WY, and CO. Essential Job Functions- Complete weekly stormwater inspections and compliance reporting for small and large‑scale energy projects.
- Interface daily with clients on environmental compliance standards.
- Enter data and report via compliance software and conduct daily environmental monitoring.
- Gather water/soil samples and travel as required.
- Lift up to 35 lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and occasionally stay overnight on field sites.
- HS diploma required; 2 years of experience required.
- Knowledge of Utah Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, Construction General Permit, and USACE standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills with ability to educate clients on compliance standards.
- Problem‑solving skills related to compliance deficiencies with timely solutions.
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft‑based software.
- Comfortable interfacing with clients during inspection events.
- Pre‑employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- B.S. preferred (Biology, Geology, Environmental Science) and/or 2+ years of experience as an environmental inspector.
- Current Utah Certified Registered Stormwater Inspector (RSI) preferred.
- Current HAZWOPER certification preferred (must be obtained upon hire).
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 pounds.
- 75‑100% travel required for field work.
- Walk across variable terrain in all weather conditions.
- Drive a 4x4 truck over long distances and uneven terrain.
- Field‑based role with long hours in remote UT, WY, and CO locations.
- Outdoor work includes weather, altitude, terrain, noise, and extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Reporting tasks involve periods of sitting or standing and computer use.
- Part‑time temporary position, no scheduled hours. Hours vary based on project/client needs.
$25.00 / hour to $30.00 / hour. Pay is determined by education, experience, skills, location, qualifications, certifications, and other relevant competencies.
