Overview
The University of Utah's John and Marcia Price College of Engineering invites applications for a career-line lecturer faculty position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEEN), with an emphasis in Nuclear Engineering. This non-tenure-track position is at the Assistant Professor level, with an anticipated start date of August 2026. We seek dynamic educators prepared to teach across the full range of Civil, Environmental, and Nuclear Engineering.
The ideal candidate has expertise in nuclear engineering and is enthusiastic about delivering core civil and environmental engineering coursework to both undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related field by the start date, and demonstrate excellent communication skills, a dedication to student success, and a commitment to inclusive, high-quality teaching.
- Teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in nuclear engineering, including nuclear fundamentals, nuclear reactor theory, radiation detection, and the nuclear fuel cycle.
- Offer core undergraduate courses in civil and environmental engineering (e.g., statics and fluid mechanics) in rotation with colleagues.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous course improvement, mentor and advise students, and actively engage in departmental service and outreach activities.
You will be joining a progressive department with 23 tenure-track faculty, three dedicated lecturers, and a vibrant research and teaching environment. The Nuclear Engineering Program (UNEP) within CVEEN awards minors, M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, and operates a 100 kW NRC-licensed TRIGA reactor with modern controls and premier training facilities. Our faculty benefit from strong collaborations across campus and with regional national laboratories and industry, as well as access to advanced resources including the Nanofab materials characterization center.
