Senior Project Manager – Heavy Civil/Highway

Job SummaryResponsible for the administration and execution of assigned projects in a safe, profitable and timely manner. Often assigned multiple projects or larger contracts and/or complexity. Manages work to meet standards of quality and integrity, establishing professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers. Participates in business development, estimating, bidding and contract negotiations. This position has Step I (managing projects $51–$100 million with 10–15 years experience) and Step II (managing projects $101–$199 million with 15+ years experience).
Must have experience on large‑scale projects including heavy civil, highway and bridge.
- Champion the orderly, timely transition of projects from estimating to field, covering contract review meetings and contract requirements.
- Complete close‑out requirements and punch lists promptly and handle warranty callbacks quickly.
- Coordinate with the Project Superintendent to ensure successful and profitable execution, monitoring manpower, equipment and material resources.
- Maintain professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors.
- Take overall responsibility for project success, including safety, schedule, profitability, quality and customer satisfaction, and personnel decisions that impact the project.
- Manage all billings to ensure timely submission of payment applications and collection of payments.
- Develop the overall CPM schedule with the Project Superintendent(s) and coordinate procurement with the Project Engineer(s). Ensure use of the Last Planner System (LPS).
- Participate in estimate preparation and review focusing on cost control, equipment utilization, constructability, materials, manpower, general conditions, schedule, insurance, etc.
- Participate in business development: client contact, proposals, presentations and negotiations for selected projects.
- Prepare the Monthly Progress Report in coordination with the Superintendent(s) by the 6th of each month, using reports to manage costs and prepare accurate cost projections.
- Review purchase orders and subcontracts prepared by estimating.
- Understand and administer prime contract terms, contracts, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, insurance, etc., providing written notifications when necessary.
- Review and execute change orders, supplements and cost‑control budget adjustments.
- Verify agreements are executed with insurance in place before subcontractors begin onsite work.
Job Requirements
- Experience in Pre‑Con managing construction projects, thorough knowledge of contract documents, materials, equipment utilization, scheduling systems, productivity analysis, construction operations and cash flow procedures.
- Four‑year construction‑related degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ten or more years’ experience on large‑scale projects including heavy civil, highway, bridge/structures.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
- May reach above shoulder height and below the waist frequently.
- May stoop, kneel or bend occasionally.
- May use telephone, computer, email or other electronic devices on a limited basis.
- Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects frequently.
- Will interact with people frequently during a shift.
- Will lift, push or pull objects occasionally.
- Will sit, stand or walk short distances for the entire shift.
