Job Schedule: 9/80 – employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off.
Position OverviewThe Senior Specialist, Systems Engineer will be responsible for the development of advanced communication subsystem hardware/software for multi‑segment (space, ground, airborne) applications. The position will span initial concept development through hardware/software implementation, test, and delivery. Potential applications include high‑rate, assured, and optical communications. The incumbent will be accountable for understanding all levels of development requirements, leading multi‑disciplined engineering teams in the development of new capabilities, and managing subcontractors.
They will leverage knowledge in requirements development, parts, materials, and process flow down, and System Verification and Validation. The ideal candidate will have a strong, multi‑discipline technical background and will work directly with internal technical IPTs, developing requirements, implementing designs, and working with customers and associated sub‑contractors.
- Lead systems engineering, organizing, participating, and managing key project/program engineering tasks.
- Lead requirements analysis, decomposition, and assignment of requirements to appropriate functional areas or subcontractors, while managing traceability back to customer specifications and system‑level derived requirements.
- Generate design synthesis and supporting documentation, including technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, and verify conformance through a verification cross‑reference matrix (VCRM).
- Ensure technical performance, quality, and adherence to established policies and processes.
- Develop and present project/program design reviews for internal and external customer audiences.
- Lead or assist in project/program schedule and budget planning, subcontract control, and risk management.
- Lead or assist in managing the systems engineering team and other functional design engineering teams.
- Lead or assist system integration, verification, and qualification events.
- Participate in customer RFI, RFP, and new business development pursuits, including on‑site and off‑site technical capability demonstrations.
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience;
Graduate degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience; or a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience in lieu of a degree. - Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance or the ability to maintain such clearance.
- Leadership skills with the ability to guide the technical direction/vision for a given project; strong contributor to integrated product teams both internally and externally.
- Understanding of communication theory, digital design, RF design, mechanical design, network design, or software design of digital line‑of‑sight and satellite communication systems.
- Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Active Secret or Top Secret DoD clearance or the ability to obtain one.
