The Transit and Rail Practice is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer/Project Manager in Salt Lake City.
In this role you will support our Transit and Rail group and contribute to a variety of transportation projects. We are looking for a highly motivated self‑starter with strong technical skills and engineering judgment to take concept designs and transform them into construction‑ready plans and technical specifications.
The successful candidate will work in a hybrid project management and engineering role on multidisciplinary transportation and transit projects. This position involves supporting project delivery through task‑level project management responsibilities while also contributing to engineering calculations, design, and plan development across a variety of transportation‑related disciplines.
You will have the opportunity to work on track design, bus rapid transit, street and corridor improvements, utility coordination and design, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, station and platform design, grading and site development, signing and striping, traffic control plans, and related infrastructure elements. The role requires experience with 3D modeling, ADA requirements, quantity take‑offs, cost estimating, and specifications development.

DEA's Transit and Rail team supports local transit agencies and remotely contributes to national transit markets. Our projects include light rail and freight rail track design, streetcars, commuter rail, bus rapid transit (BRT), express bus systems, transit stations, and other bus facilities. In addition to transit projects, you may assist other DEA groups on roadway projects, construction observation, and other multidisciplinary efforts.
WhatYou'll Do
- Collaborate with supervisors, project managers, and staff to coordinate project efforts.
- Design and oversee the preparation of preliminary and final civil construction plans using Civil3D or Open Roads.
- Ensure on‑time, on‑budget project execution while maintaining industry‑leading quality standards.
- Participate in business development and client engagement activities.
- Coordinate and review designs from other disciplines, including traffic, structures, stormwater, erosion control, and water systems.
- Prepare and modify reports, specifications, and cost estimates for assigned projects.
- Assess permitting needs and coordinate permit applications.
- Manage projects and tasks, tracking project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License.
- Experience working with state and local agencies.
- Proficiency in Micro Station/InRoads, Open Roads, and/or Civil3D design software.
- Minimum of eight years of civil engineering experience related to transportation projects.
- PE License in the State of Utah
- 12+ years of transportation project experience.
