Overview
Lead Civil Engineer position with WSP in the U.S. This role is based in WSP's South Jordan, UT office within the Transportation Team.
Job Description – WSP provides high level technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of facilities, roads, buildings, and transit; substantiating reports and documentation to advise on material, installation, design, and construction specifications;
and ensuring deliverables meet industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Apply high-level civil engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
- Perform professional civil engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, transportation channels, and operations to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
- Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; prepare construction safety and phasing plans; and update infrastructure layout plans requiring coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
- Involved from project inception to completion in the design and construction management of infrastructure projects, including rehabilitation and reconstruction, grading, drainage, pavement design, specifications, building materials, phasing, and safety plans.
- Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality for end-users and transportation systems; implement future-ready solutions with civil engineering design standards.
- Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, and scientists to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, hours/expenses tracking, tasks, quantities, permit applications, construction, and regulatory/technical analysis memos.
- Coordinate, review and approve infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Prepare data visualization and technical documentation (tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections) for interpretation and presentation of data and analyses.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining research, concepts, and recommendations to address engineering, design, and construction issues or opportunities.
- Analyze and interpret data from field investigations; contribute to action plans for moderate- to high-risk mitigation activities.
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
- Collaborate with professionals on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.
- Remain current in the latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and civil design.
- Engineer license required.
- Proficiency in civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and permitting.
- Extensive knowledge of infrastructure design and experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
- Knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
