Overview
The Student Parent Support Center provides information, support, and family resources for University students, faculty, staff, and patients. The center serves children birth to six years and operates part-time and full-time programs in three campus child care programs, plus drop-in child care for patients visiting the U Health Centers throughout the Salt Lake Valley. The University of Utah Farmington Health Center Program (FHC), in collaboration with the Student Parent Support Center, seeks qualified child care providers for their drop-in facility.
Multiple openings and continuous hiring. Free public transportation pass included with employment.
- Help children experience success in physical, social, and intellectual tasks.
- Reinforce and broaden concepts as presented by the teacher.
- Observe behavior, document observations, and may offer suggestions to the teacher.
- Do not directly communicate with parents concerning children's problems.
- May assume full responsibility for the group for short periods when the teacher is involved in other activities.
- Assist the teacher in activities and tasks that contribute to an orderly, clean environment for children.
- Meet with the teacher and staff to assist in planning.
- Plan a morning or afternoon small-group activity with assistance of the Head Teacher.
- Supervise the playground unless specifically requested to be indoors.
- This is an entry-level position. Training will be provided.
- Demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance; willingness to take direction from the assigned teacher; willingness to obtain a food handler's permit, TB test, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check, and first aid training within the first 60 days of hire.
- Demonstrated human relations skills.
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to lift and carry small children in arms for short distances (10–50 lbs).
- Physical characteristics required (with or without aids):
- Fine and gross motor skills
- Sufficient vision to read printed material
- Sufficient hearing to hear normal and telephone conversations
- Clear and understandable speech
- Ability to sit on the floor and move about on hands and knees for long periods of time.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and their parents/guardians, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to complete ongoing written assessments about each child for sharing with parents/guardians.
- Demonstrated skills in general office duties, computer systems, and technology.
- Ability to participate in in-person meetings with parents/guardians when requested.
- Ability to communicate effectively with management and/or dispatch in case of emergency.
- Interest in learning about child development and guidance.
