Overview

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean and course supervisors, the adjunct faculty member will teach one to three sections of lower-division General Education dance courses, offered in-person and/or online. Course assignments may include ballet, jazz, modern, and/or tap dance.

Compensation

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available. This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

Responsibilities
  • Teach one to three sections of lower-division General Education dance courses (in-person and/or online) in one or more of the following styles: ballet, jazz, modern, and/or tap.
  • Deliver instruction in both dance technique and theory, following the standard course curriculum through lectures, demonstrations, and assessments to support student learning and engagement.
  • Evaluate student performance through assignments and other assessment methods; provide timely, constructive feedback and return graded work per department standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and grades; submit final grades by published deadlines.
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with students, staff, and faculty; respond to student inquiries within 1–2 business days.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment; report behavioral concerns in accordance with college policy.
  • Provide ADA accommodations as required and comply with FERPA guidelines.
  • Maintain minimal but consistent office hours and an on-site campus presence to support student engagement and success.
  • Adhere to all SLCC policies, procedures, and academic standards; complete all required employee trainings.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct, appearance, and collegial behavior across all instructional and institutional interactions.
  • Be available to teach at multiple SLCC campus locations as assigned.
  • Qualifications
    • A master’s degree in Dance or a closely-related field and preferably, experience teaching dance classes at a college level.
    • Graduate students can apply with recommendations of professionals in their program.
    • Graduate-level knowledge and/or equivalent professional experience in dance technique, theory, and history with strong teaching methods and effective communication skills.
