Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean, the Adjunct Faculty member will teach lower-division private applied music instruction to music majors and non‑majors in one or more of the following areas: guitar, strings, piano, brass, voice, woodwinds, or percussion.

This is a pooled hourly position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

1) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester‑by‑semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.

2) Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within 30 days of hire.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide private applied music instruction to lower‑division students, including music majors and non‑majors, in one or more of the following areas: guitar, strings, piano, brass, voice, woodwinds, or percussion.
  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and skill levels.
  • Conduct a variety of appropriate evaluations to assess student performance and progress.
  • Offer timely, constructive feedback on assignments and return graded work in accordance with department standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and grades for institutional and financial aid purposes.
  • Inform students of their academic progress regularly and submit final grades by published deadlines.
  • Respond to student inquiries and concerns promptly, typically within 1–2 business days.
  • Provide ADA accommodations as requested and enforce FERPA guidelines.
  • Adhere to all college policies, with particular attention to those governing professional interactions and instructional responsibilities.
  • Maintain professional etiquette and appearance in all communications and interactions with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Prepare and submit incident reports for inappropriate student behavior in accordance with the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Complete all required employee trainings and maintain collegial behavior within the department and institution.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, juries, and collaborative activities as needed to support the music program and student success.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Graduate level knowledge (and/or professional work experiences) of music technique, theory and history.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
    • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
    • Bachelor's degree in Music or equivalent.
    • Experience teaching music lessons at a college level.
    • Master's degree in Music or equivalent.
