Position: 1st Grade Teacher (FT)

Overview

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Candidates should have a minimum of two years' experience, preferably in a formal elementary school setting teaching Kindergarten, 1st grade, or 2nd grade. This position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Applications are accepted until the position is filled. Position begins August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and facilitate daily lesson plans.
  • Establish and communicate clear learning objectives to students and parents.
  • Use a variety of pedagogical methods to engage students in active reasoning and relating.
  • Distill knowledge into concepts and principles that can be applied to real-world situations.
  • Maintain strong classroom management with organized routines that are purposeful and effective.
  • Communicate with employees and parents in timely, collaborative, precise, helpful, and positive ways.
  • Present information in an engaging manner with appropriate pacing.
  • Monitor and report student progress to parents.
  • Complete and share assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics.
  • Demonstrate readiness to uphold and serve as an ambassador for the school mission, honor code, and diversity statement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience, preferably in a formal elementary school setting teaching Kindergarten, 1st grade, or 2nd grade.
  • Demonstrate an enduring love of youth, a love of teaching and learning, and a desire to work in a faith-based atmosphere aligned with values taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • AHS course descriptions provide an introductory overview of the curriculum.
  • Familiarity with the Spalding or Riggs method of teaching writing, phonograms, and reading, or willingness to learn these methods.
  • Understanding of Saxon Math, or willingness to learn and teach this curriculum.
  • A teaching demonstration will be required for top candidates.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to distill knowledge into clear concepts and principles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to post assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to implement routines.
  • Habit of communicating with employees and parents in timely, collaborative, precise, helpful, and positive ways.
  • Experience in preparing and facilitating daily lesson plans.
  • Experience in establishing and communicating clear learning objectives to students and parents.
  • Ability to use a variety of pedagogical methods to engage students in active reasoning.
  • Experience monitoring and reporting progress to parents.
  • Special education training is helpful, but not required.
