Located at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, Waterford School, with an enrollment of 1,100, is Utah’s premier liberal arts, college preparatory independent school for students in Preschool through High School. Waterford School seeks a full-time Middle School Latin Teacher. Latin is a required course over the three years of Waterford’s Middle School. The curricular expectation is that training in Latin through the Middle School years will provide a solid foundation for modern language learning and a rich understanding of classical culture, and that it will also facilitate student learning in English and the sciences.
Waterford is looking for a teacher who can join an established Middle School Latin program and work well with colleagues to sustain and develop the program into the future. Like many schools, Waterford is wrestling with the questions raised by AI’s growing influence on access to information and the school is especially interested in candidates who are curious about how thoughtfully and intentionally adjust their teaching to both hold students to high standards and adapt to the reality of the technological landscape in which students work.
The ideal candidate would hold an advanced degree in Classics or a related Humanities field, with substantial training in Latin, would have 2 or more years of relevant teaching experience, and be able to develop a healthy rapport with Middle and Upper School students, and embrace Waterford School’s mission, vision, and values in curriculum, teaching, and membership in the community. .
A full-time course load entails full teaching responsibility for up to five courses.
