Currently, we have a Safety Engineer opportunity based out of our Park City, UT office.
OverviewSafety Engineer will work with Project Managers to develop individual project safety plans, conduct safety orientations and coordinate trainings for all Company personnel. The role will visit job sites at least once a week or as needed.
Responsibilities- Work with the safety team and leadership on creating a zero harm culture for a specific jobsite.
- Monitor job site activity for inspections and administrative tasks.
- Document site conditions focusing on safety items through photographs and written reports.
- Review site safety conditions and assist in developing plans for improvements with project leadership; document information on the computer.
- Conduct special employee site safety training meetings and provide detailed reports to the site project team and corporate safety director.
- Hold specialty training as required and needed; conduct monthly supervisor and foreman safety training meetings.
- Review safety infractions and improvements with site management; document progress electronically.
- Respond to safety concerns and incidents; assist in accident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Assist in compiling information for job activity hazard analyses.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company safety standards on all jobsites.
- Maintain regular, timely, and predictable attendance.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelors’ degree preferred or at least 3-5 years of construction safety experience, or a combination of both.
- Proven track record of successful OSHA/MSHA ratings and related safety metrics.
- Experience working on large commercial projects.
- OSHA 30 hour training required; OSHA outreach instructor (OSHA 500) preferred.
- MSHA 24 hour training; MSHA Blue Card Instructor a plus.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associated Safety Professional (ASP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or other safety certifications desirable.
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to lead implementation of programs and procedures developed by Big-D Corporate EH&S, safety committees, and safety managers.
- Intermediate level understanding and usage of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Highly organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and group settings.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the workplace.
- Works on a specific jobsite and collaborates with the safety team and leadership to promote a zero harm culture.

- Ensures job site orientation is conducted for every new employee on the job site.
- Reviews job hazard analysis and pre-task planning documents for scopes of work.
- Assists in any safety or risk issues identified as the project progresses.
