Cost Accountant - Manufacturing

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees the input and analysis of manufacturing scrap.
• Assists in preparation of monthly and quarterly management reports, financial statements and the annual Business Plan.
• Completes monthly closing activity related to WIP inventory and manufacturing spending and related general ledger maintenance including journal entries.
• Analyzes scrap trends on a weekly basis and investigates and reports issues to manufacturing and plant accounting.
• Manage monthly WIP physical inventory and in semiannual physical inventories.
• Prepares monthly WIP physical inventory reconciliation with manufacturing leads and/or supervisors.
• Reviews manufacturing work orders for completeness and closure.
• Prepares monthly reports of manufacturing spending variances for direct and indirect departments.
• Ongoing review of Bill of Materials and changes thereof to ensure accuracy in plant operations and inventory valuation.
• Participates in special projects assigned by the Cost Accounting Manager and/or Plant Accountant.

• Understanding of financial reporting and the required statements and supporting ledgers.
• Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting, particularly in a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of inventory control procedures.
• Proficient in the use of personal computers and spreadsheet software, particularly Excel.
• Strong analytical skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ to 5 years of experience.
• This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area, 2-4 years experience with preferably 1 year of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment or equivalent.
• MBA and/or CPA/CMA preferred.
• This position also requires demonstrated knowledge of computers, spreadsheet and word processing software.
• The incumbent must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the duties and responsibilities.
