IT Architecture & Engineering Lead

Location: Westdown Camp, Wiltshire

Reporting to: Head of Information and Technology

Team: 9 FTE

About Landmarc

Landmarc partners with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) to manage the Defence Training Estate (DTE). In April 2024, we began a new 10‑year contract (TESC), further strengthening our commitment to delivering safe, sustainable and effective training environments.

Our Information & Technology Department provides the digital platforms and services that support daily operations across the estate.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced IT Architecture & Engineering Lead to shape our architectural vision, modernise core systems and lead a multi‑disciplinary team. As a senior member of the IT Leadership Team (ITLT), you will drive the delivery of secure, reliable solutions aligned with business and contract needs.

You will oversee end‑to‑end architecture across asset management, work order management, booking systems, data and MI, finance and cloud services. Our technology stack is predominantly Microsoft-based, with systems including IBM Maximo, Select HR, ESRI ArcGIS and SharePoint.

This role suits someone with broad architecture experience, strong leadership capability, and a practical, solution‑focused approach.

Key Responsibilities Architecture Leadership
  • Develop and maintain an enterprise view of business and technology architecture.
  • Create and evolve roadmaps, patterns and principles.
  • Drive effective use of existing capabilities and define future opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to architectural, engineering and non‑functional standards.
Team Leadership & Delivery
  • Lead and develop a team of Architects, Developers and Testers.
  • Set clear objectives and provide ongoing coaching and direction.
  • Optimise engineering delivery across projects.
  • Ensure solutions are designed, built, tested and deployed effectively.
  • Oversee release of fully tested software into live environments.
  • Drive continuous improvement across development and support.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work with senior stakeholders to shape end‑to‑end architecture.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and Architects to align requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships.
  • Support impact assessments across technical, business and financial areas.
Operational Support
  • Oversee maintenance and support of existing applications.
  • Provide guidance on second‑line support and service processes.
About You

You combine strategic thinking with hands‑on engineering knowledge and strong leadership skills. You can simplify complexity, communicate clearly and balance agility with quality.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience in asset/work management environments (e.g., FM, utilities).
  • Broad architecture experience across business, application, data and infrastructure.
  • Practical understanding of EA methodologies (TOGAF, Zachman).
  • Experience defining modern architectures across multiple channels and systems.
  • Strong structured problem‑solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Experience leading teams of 6–10 technical staff.
  • Proven experience delivering within development and testing processes.
  • Project delivery experience (small to medium).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies, SQL Server, Visual Studio, Azure Dev Ops.
  • Experience with system integration and SOA.
Desirable
  • TOGAF certification.
  • Experience in cloud‑first environments.
  • Knowledge of ITIL and service management tooling.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Microsoft Certified Developer.
