The Gurkha Welfare Trust

The Gurkha Welfare Trust provides vital support to Gurkha veterans, their families and communities in Nepal. With over 50 years of experience, we deliver financial and medical aid to veterans and widows, support local communities with clean water and education, and build earthquake‑resilient homes for our most vulnerable pensioners. We operate through 19 Area Welfare Centres across Nepal and one in India, employing more than 500 staff.

The Head of Finance is a key member of the Senior Management Team responsible for the Trust’s financial management, including financial and management accounts, planning and budget submissions, forecasting and cash‑flow management, compliance and financial governance, statutory accounts and audit. The role produces group accounts for the GWT charity and the wholly owned trading subsidiary, GWT Trading Ltd, and reports the financial performance to the CEO and the Audit and Finance Committees.

• Financial and management accounts, forecasting and cash flow management
• Compliance, financial governance and statutory accounts and audit
• Reporting on financial performance to CEO and committees
• Secretary of the Investment Committee and liaison with Investment Managers
• Leadership and mentoring of finance teams in the UK and Nepal
• Introduction of a new finance system within the next 12 months

• Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Track record in senior financial management
• Experience in the charity or third sector at a senior level
• Understanding of how an organisation’s strategic direction is supported by its financial framework
• Experience of accounting data processing and report generation using BI and reporting packages in addition to Excel
• Ability to work both strategically and operationally
• Track record in managing direct reports, effective delegation, coaching and performance management
• Attention to detail while seeing the big picture
• Leading a team
