JOB OVERVIEW

Under general supervision, the Storekeeper participates in the requisition, receipt, storage, and delivery of a variety of medical and/or non‑medical equipment, materials, supplies, tools, and confidential and non‑confidential records. The role includes purchasing, receiving, transporting, loading and unloading materials, stocking, issuing, shipping, inventory control, assembling, packaging, record‑keeping, and any other duties as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receive and deliver a variety of medical and/or non‑medical equipment, materials, supplies, tools, and confidential and non‑confidential records; verify items received against packing lists and purchase orders; count or weigh the items; store items in prescribed areas, bins, racks, shelves, and floor or work site.
  • Inspect incoming materials, supplies, tools, and equipment; notify the proper personnel if adjustments are required.
  • Perform inventory control duties utilizing a variety of automated systems; maintain associated record‑keeping, requisition forms and/or database.
  • Load and unload equipment and supplies; pack and ship materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Inventory stock as scheduled or required; operate a delivery vehicle to collect materials from and to make deliveries to county locations.
  • Operate standard office machines such as personal computer, printer, copier, calculator, and fax machine.
  • Keep stock area clean and in an orderly condition.
  • WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF
  • Methods used in the receipt, storage, and issuance or delivery of a wide variety of medical and/or non‑medical items.
  • Methods of inventory records and maintenance.
  • Common units of weights and measures.
  • Business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals.
  • SKILL AND ABILITY TO
  • Estimate future supply requirements.
  • Keep accurate records and inventory control.
  • Maintain confidential files and confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Operate office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copier, and fax machine.
  • Safely operate motor vehicles, including forklifts.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Perform tasks, which require physical strength and agility; lift and move heavy or bulky boxes.
  • Learn to operate and gain a working knowledge of forklifts and other materials handling equipment.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to some experience as a stock clerk or warehouse worker or in a related capacity which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and skills listed above.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
    • The ability to speak, read, and write Spanish in addition to English would be an asset in this position but is not required.
    • Employees who drive on county business to carry out job‑related duties must possess a valid California driver license for the class vehicle driven.
    • The Department of Social Services will conduct a thorough background and reference check process, including a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
    • Monterey County requires employees to verify an employee’s right to work in the United States and to present required documentation on the first day of employment.
    • Veteran's preference: if you would like to request preference points, attach a copy of your DD‑214 to your application.
