Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
Route and complete scheduled house calls, ADC stops, store clean-outs and store deliveries safely, efficiently and on time.
- Perform routing of scheduled truck stops and complete and/or deliver trip sheets, tickets/shipping bills and other related paperwork.
- Remove materials from trucks and move to designated areas in stores and warehouses using appropriate material handling equipment.
- Complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Report, trip sheets, shipping manifests, pickup logs, and other related paperwork.
- Place materials in designated trucks for delivery to stores. Load trucks with donations from house calls attended donation stations and stores for delivery to the warehouse.
- Complete daily safety operational checklist prior to leaving plant and at all stops as necessary to maintain safety and regulatory compliance; monitor truck conditions and performance during operation and report all problems immediately or as soon as it is safe to do so.
- Load and/or off-load materials and prepare load for transport. Secure load in a safe manner.
- Drive a bobtail truck, operating according to established procedures and highway rules.
- Instruct driver trainee in operational procedures; provide work direction to trainee when on the road.
- Communicate Company policies, procedures and practices to donors, store personnel and donation attendants.
- Perform truck cleaning according to defined procedures.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. - License/Certification:
Valid California Class C driver's license. - Experience:
One year of truck driving experience, including experience as a Goodwill Central Coast driver trainee, or equivalent. - Knowledge:
Familiarity with material handling techniques and proper lifting procedures. Basic math ability. Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast’s mission, general company policies, and procedures (this may be learned on the job). - Equipment Used:
Typical material handling and transportation equipment; vehicles; typical office equipment. - Skills/Aptitudes/Temperaments:
Ability to communicate in basic oral and written English. Ability to communicate in basic Spanish preferred. Ability to drive company vehicles with a good driving record. Ability to follow company dress code, which may require wearing a company-provided uniform. Ability to coordinate eye/hand/foot movement to safely maneuver in and out of trucks and trailers, operate vehicle controls, walk up and down ramps and lift and/or stack donations.
Ability to understand and accept directions and follow procedures. Ability to read maps and plan route schedules based on addresses/locations of scheduled tickets. Ability to perform routine work, but also to adapt to changes without loss of efficiency. Ability to maintain self-control, deal effectively with the public and cooperate with others. Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance as outlined in Company policy. Depending on location, may require adherence to defined dress code for drivers. Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.
Physical Demands: The job requires frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Heavier items (51 lbs. or more) require assistance or equipment. Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient. Normal mobility is required for walking up/down ramps and climbing in/out of trucks.
Supplemental Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, pushing/pulling, climbing, squatting/kneeling, lifting/carrying 10 lbs or less to 50 lbs, reaching at/above and at/below shoulder level, use of hand/foot controls; drive long distances as needed. Longest distance carried: 25 ft; heaviest item carried: 50 lbs.
Work Setting: Work is performed outside on loading docks, donation sites, Goodwill Central Coast stores and donors’ homes, with periods inside buildings and truck cabs. Temperature and exposure to elements vary. There is exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and possible household toxic products. Regular exposure to diesel and vehicle oil. Frequent public contact and varying noise levels.
Emotional Effort: Routine with occasional high activity, some short deadlines and possible overtime.
Job Modification: Depending on modification and duration, physical aspects may be modified.
