Supervisor Lettuce

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

This position is responsible for managing harvesting crews to harvest and pack a quality pack of lettuce in a safe manner while minimizing harvesting labor cost and overseeing the preparation of the product for delivery to the cooler in the shortest possible time and at the least possible cost.

• Supervise Bud and Non-Bud harvesting crews assuring consistency in quality and pack.
• Oversee labor productivity of crews.
• Ability to plan for future harvest.
• Determine when field haul equipment should be dispatched to a field, and how that equipment should enter and exit the harvesting area.
• Accurately complete and on a timely basis the planning and scheduling of the harvest crews.
• Determine the physical location of the harvest crews.
• Communicate orally with crew management, forepersons, and employees and to have adequate written skills to prepare written documentation.
• Make every effort to eliminate any type of safety incident.
• Manage crew labor problems and hold to a minimum no unjustified grievances.
• Maintain harvest equipment in same condition as received, less normal wear and tear.
• Stay in compliance with employee safety and food safety regulations.
• Ability to prepare accurate production estimates for the current week and following 4 weeks.
