Position Description
Natividad and the Monterey County Health Department are seeking to fill several permanent and temporary Patient Services Representative II positions in Admitting/Registration, Clinic Services, and Behavioral Health Bureaus. Under general supervision, incumbents perform registration duties, interviewing patients to collect, verify, and document billing and personal information, and accurately enter data into the system. Candidates should be customer service oriented, flexible (including weekends, nights, and holidays), self-motivated, able to multitask, and work independently or with a team to ensure high-quality registration services.
Examples of Duties
- Welcome and assist patients and visitors in clinics or hospital admitting departments
- Interview patients to gather updated information and complete forms for various hospital and clinic services
- Enter patient data into computer systems; prepare and assist with paperwork and admission packets
- Schedule patient appointments using computerized registration systems
- Screen and refer patients for publicly funded payor programs
- Verify patient enrollment and eligibility, retrieve or set up medical records
- Coordinate patient escort and collect insurance information prior to discharge or appointments
- Handle deposits, receipts, and cash logs
- Translate for non-English speaking patients if needed and communicate lab results or prescriptions to providers
- Prepare patient identification bands, notify staff of admissions, and deliver charts for new admissions
- May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker and perform other related duties
Qualifications
Successful candidates will have proven knowledge, skills, and abilities in:
- Patient registration and admission procedures
- Payor sources and eligibility requirements
- Hospital/clinic computer systems
- Medical terminology and billing codes
They should also have skills in interviewing, operating office equipment, maintaining records, and providing excellent customer service. Experience of two years in hospital registration or outpatient clinic registration, or equivalent, is required. Additional training or experience may qualify.
