The Youth Therapist provides family-based mental health counseling, therapy, and case management services to children and families. They conduct assessments of needs, safety planning, and crisis intervention as needed. In addition, Crisis Clinicians link the youth to further mental health services if needed, such as Wraparound, psychotherapy, support groups, and other community services.

About Monterey County Crisis Programs

Seneca’s Monterey County Crisis Programs provide crisis stabilization services and short-term residential treatment for children and youth experiencing crises, ensuring timely support when it’s most needed. This innovative way of addressing a mental health emergency provides a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for children and youth. Upon enrollment in the programs, the Seneca teams work with the youth and support networks to assess the needs and strengths of the youth in order to develop the foundation goals that will drive treatment.

Comprehensive services include timely mental health assessments, crisis counseling, and linkage to long‑term, sustainable support based on each client’s unique strengths and needs. The ultimate goal is to provide mental health/crisis services, suicide prevention, decrease in placement changes and reduction of unnecessary psychiatric hospitalization.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the clinical lead and work with the treatment team to provide crisis intervention and other mental health services as needed.
  • Provide counseling, therapy, and case management services to ensure the successful transition of clients and their families to other community‑based resources.
  • Participate in all treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and additional meetings when necessary.
  • Coordinate with necessary collateral contacts, including caregivers and family members as needed.
  • Work with treatment team to determine course of action for follow‑up services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members and providers.
  • Participate in on‑call system weekly.
  • Complete progress notes and other paperwork, and complete service tracking documentation as indicated.
  • Participate in weekly supervision with the program supervisor or designee.
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings, weekends, and provide on‑call coverage as needed.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or social work.
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure with the applicable regulatory agency responsible for licensing, examination, and enforcement of competent mental health practice standards.
  • Strong communication skills and flexibility.
  • Experience working with children and families preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and insurability through Seneca Family of Agencies’ insurance policy.
Schedule
  • Full‑time
  • Thursday – Saturday, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • On‑call Monday
Benefits
  • Starting at $79,000 – $93,000 per year. Actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role. Additional $4,000 salary increase for BBS licensure. Additional salary increase upon passing of a bilingual proficiency exam. $5,000 sign‑on bonus for new employees.
  • 5 weeks of Paid Time Off and 11 Paid Holidays.
