Position SummaryWe are seeking a hands-on Financial Manager to lead and execute core financial, accounting, and cash management functions for AgSocio. This role is ideal for an experienced finance professional who enjoys owning the details, operating in a fast-paced environment, and serving as both a financial leader and an individual contributor.
The Financial Manager reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with company leadership across operations, payroll, and billing. While this position includes limited people management (currently one additional team member), the role is primarily execution-focused and requires direct involvement in daily, weekly, and monthly financial processes.
This is a critical role for the company and requires someone who can independently manage payables, cash flow tracking, financial reporting, and compliance while also improving systems and processes over time. This position may be remote for candidates located in California or other U.S. states, with regular travel (up to 25%) to company headquarters in Salinas, CA and other operational locations.
Responsibilitiesand Duties
- Prepare and deliver accurate weekly and monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, and management reporting.
- Personally manage day-to-day accounting activities including accounts payable, vendor payments, bank transfers, and cash positioning.
- Maintain detailed cash flow tracking and forecasting in a high-volume weekly transaction environment.
- Oversee customer invoicing and accounts receivable processes to ensure timely and accurate billing and collections.
- Maintain and oversee the general ledger, chart of accounts, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate cost accounting by department, crew, and line of business.
- Manage fixed assets including vehicles, equipment, and furnishings, including tracking, depreciation, and replacement planning.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to a small accounting team (currently one team member), while remaining directly involved in core work.
- Partner with operations and leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial decision-making.
- Support contract preparation and execution with clients, vendors, landlords, and service providers.
- Manage tax compliance including payroll, franchise, corporate, and other required state and federal filings.
- Coordinate with external accountants, payroll providers, banks, and advisors.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (advanced degree a plus).
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a small to mid-sized organization.
- Demonstrated experience personally handling accounts payable, cash management, bank transfers, and reconciliations.
- Experience managing cash flow in organizations with frequent, high-volume transactions.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles including AR/AP, accruals, depreciation, and cost accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting and financial reporting systems.
