Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Middle School Physical Education Teacher provides standards-based physical education instruction for students in grades 6 8, emphasizing lifelong fitness, physical conditioning, sports skills, teamwork, personal wellness, and healthy living practices including nutrition and safety awareness.
Essential Duties
- Plan and implement a physical education curriculum aligned with district goals and Colorado Academic Standards
- Instruct and demonstrate physical skills, fitness principles, and sport-related activities
- Provide age-appropriate instruction on nutrition, personal safety, and healthy living habits that support overall student wellness
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
- Teach and enforce safety procedures and proper equipment use
- Assess, document, and report student progress
- Prepare and manage instructional materials and equipment
- Maintain accurate records for attendance, grading, and reporting
- Communicate effectively with students and parents
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in meetings and professional development
- Maintain inventory and ensure equipment safety and functionality
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of secondary-level physical education instruction and best practices
- Ability to manage and motivate middle school students in active learning environments
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
- Ability to use technology and district data systems
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Gymnasiums, outdoor athletic areas, locker rooms, and standard school facilities
- Colorado Department of Education K 12 Physical Education Teacher License or eligible to obtain
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education-related field
- Middle school physical education teaching experience preferred
- Valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
- 178-day contract
- Salary: BA Step 1 - $42,000 (Placement on the certified teacher salary schedule is based on education and experience) . Please note this reflects the 25-26 salary schedule and is subject to increase.
