We are hiring a Sr. Pilot Plant Technician in our Salina, KS, pizza complex
. This position is responsible for the support of research and development groups in the areas of new product development, product improvement, cost reduction, product maintenance, lab operations and maintenance, sensory testing, and technical support. The technician will also manage the operations and maintenance of the pilot plant, working with product development staff to coordinate, schedule, set up and assist in testing or production in the pilot plant.
You Will Do
- Operate and maintain pilot plant equipment, keep documentation, maintain cleanliness, calibrate instruments and coordinate repairs.
- Maintain records of maintenance and sanitation.
- Schedule and coordinate lab inspections to maintain certifications.
- Work with Product Development and Process Engineering to develop and conduct training programs for new processes, equipment and product re‑staging.
- Develop experimental formulas or processing techniques with guidance from scientists and engineers.
- Evaluate existing formulas and processes, identify cost savings and improvement opportunities, and recommend solutions to scientists or management.
- Support commercialization of new products, including installation and shakedown of new equipment.
- Mentor and train other technicians in equipment operation and maintenance, as applicable.
- Assist Product Development and Operations in gathering and disseminating testing and production data for the pilot plant.
- Be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the pilot plant, including any new equipment introduced.
- Place purchase orders and coordinate delivery and receipt of required ingredients.
- Document all work according to procedures and guidelines, prepare reports to project teams to ensure complete communication of status, progress, issues, solutions, timelines and accountability.
- Develop and implement programs to improve efficiencies, speed and quality of response, focusing on meeting department and business unit goals.
- Provide technical support to Product Development and Operations as it relates to product testing or production in the pilot plant, and give feedback or recommendations to support ongoing projects.
- Associate degree (AA) from a college or technical school or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of related experience.
- Good working knowledge of manufacturing practices.
- Knowledge of FDA, USDA and OSHA regulations.
- Knowledge of safety and testing procedures and various laboratory and pilot plant equipment.
- Basic PC skills, including Windows, word processing and spreadsheets.
- Ability to operate and calibrate R&D laboratory and pilot lab instruments and equipment.
- Ability to taste and ingest any type of food product under development.
The base salary range for this position is $24–$27 per hour. The pay range reflects various factors such as education, skills, work experience, certifications and geography.
