Safety Mentor

Overview

Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking a Safety Mentor to join our team. This position will support the Health and Safety team in training our production teams on safe work habits, recommend improvements to prevent accidents, support Safety team on investigations and ensure implementation of the corrective actions. The Safety Mentor will serve on the plant’s Safety Committee and serve as a resource for employee safety concerns.

Salina, KS

This position typically works Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus overtime as required. Must be flexible to work varied hours outside this schedule in order to work with other shifts on occasion.

• Train employees, new hire mentors, leads, and supervisors on safety policies and safe work habits.
• Inspect facilities to identify unsafe conditions and potential safety hazards. Recommends preventive safety improvements to plant manager.
• Support Safety team on investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions to avoid future accidents.
• Partner with Plant Manager to ensure corrective actions are implemented for recordable and Class A incidents.
• Serve on Safety Committee and is a resource for employee safety concerns.
• Support Plant Manager in maintaining safety metrics.
• Complete Safety Mentor Training Program to include OSHA 30 certification, Kubota Site Inspection Handbook Certification, Kubota Risk Assessment Training, Kubota ISE Training, Machine Guarding, Safety Dojo, LEAN training and 6S training.
• Attend monthly meetings with Safety team for additional training, discuss safety issues and solutions in their plants, consistent implementation of solutions in all plants to avoid accidents, and discuss questions and goals.
• Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.

• Qualified candidates must consistently work in a safe manner and encourage coworkers to work safely.
• Currently provide supervisor with suggestions to improve safety and help implement those ideas.
• Prior experience working in a production environment. Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Desire to learn safety training outlined above and willing to implement safety programs and policies.
• Exhibit self-motivation, positive attitude, good organizational skills, and be results oriented.
• Willing and available to work flexible hours.
