The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports healthcare providers by performing clinical and administrative duties in a medical setting. This role ensures efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and high-quality patient care in accordance with medical and ethical standards.
- Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and instruments according to infection-control and sterilization standards.
- Obtain and document patient medical history, vital signs, and chief complaints.
- Assist providers with examinations.
- Perform routine clinical tasks such as:
- Administering medications (per state regulations)
- Conducting EKGs
- Performing phlebotomy and specimen collection
- Conducting point-of-care testing
- Administer vaccines, injections, and basic wound care.
- Document all patient interactions accurately.
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality at all times.
- Manage patient flow.
- Maintain accurate medical records and prepare documentation for provider review.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant certification (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA) from an accredited program.
- CPR/BLS certification.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.
- 1+ years of experience in a medical office or clinic setting.
- Experience with phlebotomy and injections.
- Exams and procedures may take place at local offices, mobile clinics, armories or other designated military facilities.
- May require occasional travel to outreach or satellite clinic locations.
- Normal working hours with occasional evening or weekend appointments as needed.
