Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Manufacturing Engineer develops, optimizes, and supports manufacturing processes used to build industrial control panels in accordance with UL 508A, NEC, and company standards. This role creates and improves build documentation, work instructions, layouts, and tooling to increase quality, throughput, and manufacturability. The Manufacturing Engineer serves as the technical liaison between Engineering, Production, QC, and Supply Chain, providing troubleshooting support, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring panels are efficiently built to design requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Process Engineering & Documentation
- Develop and maintain build instructions, process workflows, and standard work for panel assembly and wiring.
- Create/updating panel layouts, wiring documentation, BOM structures, and manufacturing travelers.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering to ensure manufacturability, component standardization, and UL 508A compliance.
- Support ERP routing creation, labor standards, and phase structures.
- Production Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide hands‑on technical expertise to address wiring issues, layout discrepancies, and component functionality.
- Support Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and clarify drawings, schematics, or BOM updates for the production team.
- Assist with root‑cause analysis for rework, NCRs, and recurring build problems.
- Quality & Compliance
- Develop quality checkpoints and inspection criteria for wiring, torque, labeling, layout, and testing.
- Ensure all builds comply with UL 508A, NEC principles, and internal quality standards.
- Collaborate with QC on test procedures, continuity/point‑to‑point documentation, and power‑up validation.
- Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Lead improvement initiatives to enhance flow, reduce waste, and standardize work.
- Support 5S, visual management, and ergonomic improvements within the shop.
- Implement process changes to improve cycle time, reduce defects, and increase repeatability.
- Determine tooling needs (crimpers, torque tools, jigs, fixtures, test equipment) for optimal manufacturing performance.
- Evaluate component substitutions or alternates for manufacturability and cost savings.
- Work with Supply Chain to standardize preferred components and reduce part variability.
- Training & Technical Communication
- Train Production Leads and Technicians on new processes, UL 508A requirements, and best wiring/layout practices.
- Translate engineering intent into clear, actionable manufacturing instructions.
- Provide feedback to Engineering for future design improvements and shop‑friendly layouts.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–5 years of experience in electrical panel assembly, industrial controls, or manufacturing engineering preferred.
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and NEC/UL 508A requirements. Successful completion and ongoing maintenance of UL Certification testing are required.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Solid Works Electrical, or similar).
- Experience writing work instructions, standard work, or process documentation.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and familiarity with root‑cause, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement tools.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and supply chain.
- ERP experience preferred (routing, BOMs, travelers, labor standards).
