Aboutthe Program
Aging and People with Disabilities (APD), part of the Oregon Department of Human Services, provides services to older adults and people with physical disabilities.
Summary of Duties- This position receives, screens and investigates reports concerning abuse, neglect and exploitation committed against older adults and adults with physical disabilities. Investigations occur in community-based long term care facilities and the community at large.
- Provide plans of safety and prevention to mitigate current and/or future incidents of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Make referrals and/or work with community partners as part of Adult Protective Services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in the human, social, behavioral or criminal sciences and two years of human service, law enforcement or investigative experience; OR
- Associate’s Degree in the human, social, behavioral or criminal sciences and four years of related experience.
- Three years professional level experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree; 18 months for an Associate’s.
- Experience working in investigations (civil, legal, criminal or abuse/neglect).
- Experience interviewing people to gather and verify information related to abuse, neglect and/or self-neglect.
- Proficiency with multiple Windows-based software applications and data entry into those systems.
- Strong written communication skills and ability to produce detailed, analytical, concise reports.
Must be able to drive and meet with individuals in homes and community settings, including long term care facilities. A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required. Exposure to communicable diseases possible.
Background Checks and Requirements- If selected as a finalist, a criminal history and background check will be conducted.
