Overview
Facility Energy Technician 2 at Mac Laren Youth Correctional Facility, Woodburn, OR. You will maintain and operate energy systems (boilers, HVAC/R, water treatment) and supervise youth work crews, contributing to safe, professional facilities and youth development.
Base pay range and posting details are provided by the State of Oregon. Salary offers are based on skills and experience.
Duties & Responsibilities- Maintain and repair HVAC/R and boiler systems: operate, calibrate, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and steam boiler systems for safe and efficient performance.
- Monitor water systems: operate and repair wastewater distribution and water treatment systems, including inspections, sampling, and reporting.
- Perform building maintenance and repairs: plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, and general facility upkeep.
- Support emergency and preventive maintenance needs: respond to urgent equipment failures and weather-related issues; perform routine preventive maintenance.
- Supervise and train youth work crews: instruct youth in safe tool use, maintenance, and trade skills while reinforcing positive work habits and safety.
- Ensure safety and security: maintain tool control, monitor youth activities, and enforce security measures in a safe correctional environment.
- Completion of a recognized HVAC/R apprenticeship or a two-year HVAC/R accredited trade school in heating/air-conditioning or refrigeration plus one year of full-time experience; OR
- Three years of full-time experience performing the duties of the position; OR
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Driver's license required; driving is an essential function. Pre-employment driving record checks will be conducted.
- Small Water System Operator certification within 6 months of hire.
- EPA certification within 6 months of hire.
- Provide polite and professional service to youth, staff, contractors, and other customers.
- Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions; read blueprints and shop drawings.
- Fine motor skills to safely use test equipment, instruments, and tools.
- Analytical ability to resolve complex mechanical problems and contribute to problem solving.
- Adaptability and ability to give and receive feedback.
