Overview
As a Rural Appraiser, you’ll have the opportunity to work both independently in the field and collaboratively in the office. In this role, you will:
- Conduct on-site inspections of land and residential properties, documenting physical characteristics and property details.
- Perform computer-assisted research and analysis to ensure accurate, equitable property valuations across the county.
- Work closely with Marion County residents to gather information, explain valuation methods, and educate the public about Oregon’s property tax system and the mass appraisal process.
- Contribute to a team-oriented environment while maintaining the independence to manage your own fieldwork and assignments.

Property Appraiser 2: 29.54 - 39.58 hr
General Statement of DutiesProperty Appraiser 1:
Assists as a trainee in the appraisal of real or personal property. Upon satisfactorily meeting the experience, knowledge, training and special requirements of the Property Appraiser 1 classification, the employee may be promoted to the classification of Property Appraiser 2.
Property Appraiser 2:
Appraises real or personal property for tax assessment purposes.
Property Appraiser 1 and 2:
Works under the supervision of the Appraisal Supervisor, a Senior Appraiser or the County Assessor, who makes work assignments, reviews work through reports and observes work performance.
Property Appraiser 1 and 2:
Supervision is not a responsibility of positions in this class; however, may be assigned to train individuals of a lower classification within the same series.
