SummaryThis position is responsible for diagnosing and treating diseases and deformities of the human foot by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties- Review, update, and sign off scribe‑prepared patient encounter charts daily.
- Diagnose diseases and deformities of the foot using medical histories, physical examinations, x‑rays, and laboratory test results.
- Treat skin, soft‑tissue, bone, muscle, and joint disorders affecting the feet, ankles, and lower extremities.
- Perform routine foot care and minor surgical procedures in a facility setting.
- Manage and coordinate travel team activities.
- Maintain high patient satisfaction levels with professionalism.
- Provide treatments and foot care as medically appropriate for diseases and deformities of the foot, ankle, and lower limb.
- Educate patients about the etiology and sequelae of conditions affecting the foot and lower extremities.
- Maintain active knowledge of diagnoses that allow coverage for routine foot care recognized by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
- Aseptically collect nail specimen biopsies to evaluate and treat onychomycosis; educate patients on microtrauma and the etiology of fungal infections.
- Demonstrate familiarity with CMS routine foot‑care covered diagnoses.
- Proficiently treat conditions onsite such as elongated nails, fungal nails, corns, calluses, ingrown nails, tumors, shortened tendons, cysts, or abscesses.
- Communicate effectively and obtain appropriate surgical consent from the Medical Power of Attorney to perform minor surgery (e.g., ingrown nails, nail avulsions, incision and drainage, flexor tenotomy).
- Refer patients to physicians or other specialists when systemic or malignant disorders are suspected.
- Treat deformities by strapping and padding to offload calluses and wounds with felt or other pedorthic materials.
- Prescribe medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, or surgery.
- Check fit of prosthetic appliances and measure/cast for new devices.
- Document and chart medical visits in the electronic medical record system with high detail, following NWCare treatment protocols.
- Perform administrative duties, review culture reports, prescribe medications, and communicate with the patient care team via fax, phone, secure email, or patient portal.
- Maintain adequate instrument counts, order supplies as necessary, and keep accurate facility administrative records of patient cancellations and related data.
- Educate the public about the benefits of foot care through speaking engagements, advertising, and other forums.
- Travel to facilities within the State of Oregon to provide podiatry care to patients.
- Perform or assist with surgeries in the in‑office surgery suite as necessary.
