Provides technical support by telephone, remote technology, and on-site to computer users statewide. Requests are generally logged into the computerized tracking system before escalation. Records solutions in the solutions database or other forms of documentation. Communicates to the affected parties the status of requests.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate and diagnose computer‑related problems reported by division staff across the state.
  • Assist users with unusual and more complex issues that may be referred from lower‑level IS staff.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues, including physically repairing hardware or remotely controlling computers and contacting software or hardware vendors.
  • Analyze system performance, error codes, and diagnostic messages and resolve problems or conflicts.
  • Install and test software/hardware, including performing version compatibility checks, modifying configurations, testing, troubleshooting, and performing significant hardware upgrades (e.g., BIOS or ROM upgrades, flashing).
  • Write installation documentation and maintain a knowledge library.
  • Conduct performance analysis on PCs to determine system performance levels and implement measures (e.g., running Defrag or Scan disk, providing user instructions) when performance deteriorates.
  • Contact hardware/software vendors for new products and as a source of information to improve utilization of current hardware and software.
Qualifications
  • Two years of experience supporting desktops in an enterprise environment.
  • Intermediate‑level knowledge of troubleshooting and testing hardware and software.
  • Ability to document solutions and maintain knowledge libraries.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to keep users informed of request status.
  • Experience with vendor support and configuration modifications.
