Position: Corrections Nurse (LPN)

On‑Site Work Requirement

Marion County requires on‑site work. Remote work is not available.

Overview

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a full‑time LPN to provide health screening and services ranging from basic first aid to the management of medical conditions in a correctional setting. The role involves collaborative care for the over 7,000 adults in custody and requires strong communication skills and teamwork.

Wages

$28.72 - $37.87 per hour. Hourly rate is negotiable.

Shift Differential
  • Additional $3.92 per hour for hours worked between 6:00 pm and 11:59 pm
  • Additional $3.85 per hour for hours worked between 12:00 am and 5:59 am
  • Additional $1.65 per hour for hours worked Saturday 12:01 am to Sunday 11:59 pm

General Statement of Duties

Serve as a professional nurse in the county corrections facility, performing a variety of nursing duties in a correctional setting with independent judgment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform accurate chart documentation using SOAP notes.
  • Conduct thorough nursing assessments of adults in custody.
  • Demonstrate skillful knowledge of nursing procedures.
  • Maintain consistent medical department operations.
  • Adhere to security principles and procedures.
  • Maintain pharmacy upkeep and medication dispensing.
  • Ensure facility and county standards of operation at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements for the Position Experience and Training
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.
Special Requirements
  • License to practice as a licensed practical nurse in Oregon at the time of appointment.
  • Complete training on security and supervision of inmates within six months after hire.
  • Pass a post‑offer drug screen (including marijuana).
  • Pass a criminal history background check, including fingerprinting.
  • Full‑time position eligible for overtime.
  • 24‑hour, 7‑day operation with rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing skills and practices, public health laws, and regulations.
  • Understanding of criminal and civil liability associated with medical practice in a correctional facility.
  • Independent functioning with minimal supervision.
  • Professional conduct in a secured environment.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours and respond to emergencies.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and clear reports.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Computer and medical equipment operation.
  • Collaboration with healthcare and correctional staff and inmate population.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Full‑time employees may qualify for forgiveness after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.

Visa Sponsorship

Marion County does not offer visa sponsorship. All employees must complete the I‑9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. Marion County is an E‑Verify employer.

Veterans’ Preference

Documents Required for Veterans’ Preference
