Position Title: Forest Management Technician - The Dalles

You will work as part of the Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) crew, assisting the National Forests in achieving management goals including timber sale planning, thinning, prescribed burning, and more. You will also perform fire suppression duties as needed.
General DutiesFuel reduction, vehicle operation, maintenance, community relations, coop activities, fire suppression.
Qualifications- Eighteen months of experience in natural resources or an associate degree in a related field, or equivalent combination.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Preference given for firefighter (FFT2) qualifications and faller (FAL3) or above.
- Experience reading and interpreting aerial photos and fire maps.
- Knowledge of timber cruising and basic forestry skills (clinometer, GPS).
- Experience using chainsaws to limb and fall trees.
- Successful completion of S-212.
- Experience driving on improved and unimproved forest roads.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, teamwork, and strong communication.
- Excellent communication skills and inclusive leadership.
Note:
The person in this position is expected to have or be able to acquire FFT2 or higher with successful completion of S-212 and be able to perform firefighting duties as needed. Successful applicants must pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the arduous level if selected for employment.
Wildfire operations may involve extended or irregular hours, physical exertion in heat, smoke, rugged terrain, and remote locations. Travel to 14‑day deployments may be required. The position supports wildfire operations in a variety of environments.
