Make an impact:
The City of Salem has an immediate opening for a full-time Survey Technician I or II. The successful candidate will be part of a surveying field crew, providing support to the Crew Chief and the City Surveyor in completing City Improvement projects and other survey-related tasks. Occasional independent work as a one-person field crew may be required. This position may be filled at the Survey Technician I or II depending on the selected candidate's experience.

What you will do:
A successful candidate will be a responsible individual with excellent organizational skills who is thorough, attentive to detail, maintains a safe environment, is dependable, and is capable of working independently. This position interacts daily with the general public and city staff, so effective communication skills is essential for success.
Additional information on job responsibilities:
* Utilize Trimble survey technology and equipment to complete various land survey projects.
* Coordinate and communicate field work with supervisor or designee.
* Keep accurate notes, records, sketches, and pictures that clearly describe the work performed.
* Post-process and manage electronic data.
* Maintain field equipment and organization of supplies.
* This position's direct report is to the field crew chief.
* Work independently when required to successfully complete assigned tasks within established deadlines.
* Work outdoors in all seasonal weather conditions.

Compensation range for Survey Technician I 03.A15: $25.75 - $31.33 hourly, AFSCME Represented
Compensation range for Survey Technician II 03.A20: $31.271 - $37.97 hourly, AFSCME Represented
What are the minimum qualifications?
Survey Technician I (Engineering Technician I):
* Must pass the pre-employment background check.
* Possess an Oregon Driver license and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
* High school graduate or G.E.D. or demonstrated progressive field experience in land surveying industry.
Preferred Qualification (Not required to apply):
* One to four years of progressive field experience in land surveying is preferred.
Survey Technician II (Engineering Technician II):
* Must pass the pre-employment background check.
* Possess an Oregon Driver license and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
* Associate's degree in a surveying or engineering program plus two years of progressive land survey field experience and certification as a Certified Survey Technician II that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
