STATUS: Seasonal Full time
PAY RATE: $750+ per week DOE
The Organization and RoleYMCA Camp Greider is a summer day camp nestled in the West Hills of Salem, Oregon since 1978. Each summer, we welcome approximately 100 campers per week to explore, grow, and create lifelong memories. Our dedicated staff foster a supportive and fun environment where campers make new friends, develop new skills, and gain confidence. Camp Greider offers a dynamic blend of specialty instruction and outdoor recreation, taking full advantage of our unique natural setting.

The Role
The Assistant Director of Programming is a key member of the Camp Greider leadership team. This role is directly responsible for overseeing and coordinating all camp programming, including traditional camp activities and specialty programs. Specific responsibilities include finalizing curriculum, supply planning and purchasing, working with specialty camp instructors, coordinating logistics for program locations, and supporting all general camp programming. The AD of Programming ensures that all activities run smoothly and align with YMCA and ACA Accreditation standards.
EssentialFunctions
- Assist the Camp Director with supervising and supporting program staff (outdoor skills, creativity, aquatics), camp counselors, and specialty camp instructors.
- Oversee planning and scheduling of all camp activities, including traditional camp programs, specialty camp activities, and rotating weekly themes.
- Ensure smooth operations by finalizing curriculum, managing supplies, and coordinating activity locations.
- Collaborate with the Camp Director to ensure programming aligns with camp goals and values.
- Work with the Camp Director and specialty camp instructors to support their curriculum and logistics.
- Develop and implement alternative programming for inclement weather or schedule changes.
- Assist the Camp Director and Camping Services Director with planning and implementing staff training.
- Support staff appreciation events and activities.
- May assist with camp social media in coordination with the Camp Director.
- Assist in staff and program observations, providing feedback to ensure high-quality programming and staff performance.
- Work closely with the Camp Director to implement safety protocols and ensure adherence to risk management policies.
- Support the reset and preparation of camp between sessions, ensuring all areas are cleaned, organized, and ready before staff departure on Fridays.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to staff, fostering professional growth, teamwork, and adherence to camp values.
- Assist the Director in office and program site set up, paperwork, supplies and needs as they arise.
- Work with Camp Director and AD of Operations to coordinate facilities and programs with department staff and other agencies and organizations as needed.
- Communicate with the Director and other lead staff regarding follow up needed on youth discipline, parent concerns, staff concerns, etc.

RequirementsEntry Requirements
- At least 18 years of age
- Minimum of one prior summer in a camp leadership role, preferably overseeing programs.
- Experience planning, organizing, and scheduling large group activities and specialty programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with staff, campers, and families.
- Ability to adapt programming based on weather, safety concerns, and camper needs.
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience, particularly in overseeing program staff.
- Creative problem-solving skills to enhance and improve camp programming.
- Strong organizational skills to manage camp schedules, supplies, and logistics efficiently.
