Abiqua School, located in Salem, Oregon, and serving the mid-Willamette Valley, is the region’s premier independent PK–8 school and is seeking a Dean of Faculty and Curriculum to help lead our academic program into its next chapter.
This senior leadership role is for an experienced educational leader who combines instructional expertise with relational strength—someone who can coach teachers, steward curriculum, and hold high expectations with clarity, warmth, and consistency. The Dean of Faculty and Curriculum plays a central role in shaping the day-to-day academic experience for students and faculty alike.

Working closely with the Head of School and as a member of the senior leadership team, the Dean of Faculty and Curriculum provides leadership for faculty growth, curriculum alignment, assessment practices, and instructional excellence across PK–8. This role ensures that Abiqua’s academic program is mission-aligned, developmentally sound, and responsive to best practices in education.

General SummaryThe Dean of Faculty and Curriculum is responsible for the leadership, strategy, management, and continuous improvement of Abiqua School’s academic program and faculty experience. This includes faculty supervision and evaluation, curriculum development and alignment, instructional coaching, professional development, and assessment practices. The Dean partners closely with the Head of School, leadership team, and faculty to ensure a cohesive, mission-driven educational program that reflects Abiqua’s values and commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities- Provide vision and leadership for teaching and learning across PK–8, ensuring alignment with Abiqua’s mission, HEART values, and educational philosophy.
- Oversee curriculum development, alignment, and review to ensure coherence and continuity across grade levels and divisions.
- Lead the refinement of instructional practices and assessment strategies to support high-quality student learning.
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate faculty in collaboration with the Head of School, supporting professional growth while maintaining high expectations.
- Build and sustain a strong faculty culture grounded in trust, accountability, reflection, and continuous improvement.
- Design and lead meaningful professional development aligned with school priorities and faculty needs.
- Serve as a visible, engaged leader who is present in classrooms and actively connected to the daily life of the school.
- Collaborate with leadership and support staff to ensure a cohesive, developmentally appropriate academic experience for all students.
- Serve as an active member of the senior leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and school-wide initiatives.
- Lead by example using Abiqua’s HEART skills and values in all interactions and decision-making.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of teaching experience, with demonstrated success in instructional leadership, curriculum development, and faculty supervision.
- Prior leadership experience in an independent school setting is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of child development and progressive educational practices across PK–8.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and evaluate faculty with clarity, empathy, and high expectation.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration, trust, and professional growth among adults.
