Overview

Trailer Mechanic (53′ Dry Van & Reefer) — Full-Time

Location: Salem, NH (shop & yard)

About the role:

3 Lions Logistics is hiring a hands-on Trailer Mechanic to keep our 53′ fleet safe, compliant, and rolling. You’ll handle the day-to-day repairs and preventive maintenance on dry vans and reefers (trailer side only), from brake jobs and lighting to body patches and tires.

What you’ll do
  • Perform PMs and FHWA/DOT inspections on 53′ trailers; document all work.
  • Brake system service: shoes/drums/rotors, chambers, slack adjusters, air lines, ABS sensors.
  • Electrical & lighting: diagnose shorts/opens, repair 7-way wiring, replace LEDs/harnesses.
  • Tires & wheels: repair/replace, mount/dismount, balance, torque, replace wheel seals & bearings.
  • Body & frame: patch/repair aluminum/FRP sidewalls, roof, floor, crossmembers, ICC bumper, landing gear, doors & hinges.
  • Air system: locate and fix leaks, valves, gladhands, air tanks, governors.
  • Coordinate any reefer-unit repairs with vendors; perform basic checks (belts, mounts, leaks).
  • Maintain parts inventory, keep the shop organized, and follow safety procedures.
  • Occasionally support roadside or on-site fixes with a service truck (as needed).
What you’ll bring
  • 5+ years as a trailer technician/mechanic (fleet, dealer, or mobile) — or strong diesel/HD truck experience with trailer focus.
  • Solid working knowledge of air brakes, 12V trailer wiring, and DOT requirements.
  • Ability to weld/cut (MIG preferred) for patch panels/brackets (nice to have).
  • Comfortable using diagnostic tools (multimeter, scan for ABS), torque wrenches, tire machines, presses.
  • Valid driver’s license; clean, safety-first work habits; dependable and organized.
  • Able to lift 75 lbs+, work on your feet, and handle New England weather when repairs are yard-side.
Schedule
  • Full-time, typically Monday–Friday day shift, with occasional after-hours/OT for breakdowns or turnarounds.
Pay & benefits
  • Competitive hourly pay.
  • Paid time off and holidays
Tools & equipment
  • Specialty tools, heavy equipment, and PPE provided.
