- Performs prescribed, routine maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration system and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
- Gathers enough system knowledge to match customer needs with potential sales opportunities and perform rapid/accurate diagnosis.
- Manage truck inventory. Orders, receives, bills out and maintains parts responsibly with minimal waste. Maintain assigned vehicle within company guidelines. Keep vehicle clean and perform required maintenance on time.
- Complete necessary documents and electronic communications in a thorough, accurate, professional and timely manner. Use hand-held devices to complete paperwork and invoicing requirements.
- Ability to inspect joints, install PVC drain pipe with minimal supervision, set and trim cases, install and adjust glass doors and frames, use temperature sensors, brazing and soldering techniques, and determine proper coil layout in complex boxes.
- Identify pipe sizes and fittings by sight; perform system refrigerant and oil conversions and test oil during conversions; weld various metals and joint types as needed.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and correctly size thermostatic expansion valves.
- Understand pressure regulators related to pressurized gases, refrigerant flow controls, TEV troubleshooting and replacement, and tracing complex schematic diagrams.
- Demonstrate knowledge of various system components and controls including EMS, CO2 refrigeration, startup procedures, and wiring diagrams.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of gauges, oil management, and motor types and their parameters.
- Detect and repair leaks on conventional systems and parallel racks; perform compressor diagnosis and replacements; troubleshoot more complex service calls.
- Mentor other technicians and lead HVAC/R preventive maintenance programs.

Education:
Required:
High School Diploma/GED
Preferred: HVAC-R Technical School Degree
- External Candidates: 7 years in the field or 5 years with Certification from a Technical School
- Internal Candidates: 3 years as a Certified Technician with completion of OJT & Skills Assessment
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License and maintain a safe driving record in accordance with the Fleet Policy.
- Physically able to walk distances, bench and crouch, climb ladders, work at high elevations and lift/carry objects up to fifty pounds, repetitively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented and highly motivated.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic maintenance tasks and hand tools.
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends as required.
- Working knowledge of basic refrigeration and/or commercial refrigeration and HVAC is preferred.
- Strong leadership and business acumen.
- EPA 608 Universal Certification.
- Superior decision-making ability and paperwork skills.
