The 93-room historic Hawthorne Hotel is seeking a dedicated and established Executive Chef to manage a high-volume dining and catering business.
Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day culinary operations of the hotel, this department head position requires a hands-on individual who ensures the highest attention is given to providing excellent food quality to our hotel guests.
Accountable for the overall success of the daily operations, the Executive Chef will be leading the kitchen staff and managing all food-related functions. Achieving consistent top-level food satisfaction, this individual will understand the financial aspect of budgeting, cost controls and inventory management while at the same time recognize the challenges and opportunities that come with leading a diverse and motivated kitchen team in a guest-centered environment.
By ensuring standardization of recipes and creative plate presentation for a la carte and catered events, the Chef and the culinary team aim to deliver a memorable dining experience for our guests.
The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, place kitchen hygiene as a top priority, have an impeccable track record of leadership skills and lead through culinary passion. A positive and professional approach with coworkers and guests is essential. As Executive Chef, this candidate is responsible for the hiring of all kitchen staff and will be measured on being successful in training, development and growth of the entire team through inclusive mentoring and positive communication.
Requirements:
- Prior experience as an Executive Chef in a hotel environment strongly preferred.
- Must have worked a minimum of 7 years in a high-volume kitchen, of which a minimum of 4 years in a management position as Executive Sous Chef or Executive Chef
- Proven track record of team management, organizational and coaching skills to motivate, encourage, guide and develop a team of cooks
- Excellent record of financial acumen, inventory management and cost controls
- Comply with local DOH health and safety codes to ensure company safety and security policies
- At minimal a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, yet a B.S. degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
- Strong technical literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel, payroll management and POS systems
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Serv Safe, Crowd Manager, First Aid certifications required
- Must be a US citizen or possess a valid work permit.
- Must be able to stand for several hours and frequently lift items up to 30 pounds.
The Hawthorne Hotel operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. You will be required to work a variety of shifts, which include weekends and holidays. Benefits include eligibility for health and dental, 401K, and hotel and company discounts on food and accommodations. We do offer free on-site parking.
