Position: High School ELA Teacher (SY26-27)

Salem Academy Charter School (SACS) is a nationally ranked urban charter school north of Boston offering a rigorous college preparatory program to nearly 500 students in grades 6-12. POSITION SUMMARY & OVERVIEW

Salem Academy seeks an excellent English Language Arts Teacher who is committed to raising student achievement through an integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community.

Ideal candidates will have experience fostering effective inclusion practices and a safe, positive, and respectful class and school culture. Candidates should be passionate about SACS’s mission and vision and have a proven track record of achieving academic success with a diverse student body.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Working with and for Students: aligning curricular standards with state guidelines; monitoring student progress through standards‑based assessments; analyzing student data; differentiating instruction; teaching four English classes per day (with two periods reserved for preparation and collaboration); tutoring one day per week after school; supporting, planning and/or co‑leading Service‑Learning projects; advising students through daily Connections class (homeroom); inputting academic and behavioral data on the school data management system;

    analyzing student data and monitoring student progress through standards‑based assessments.
  • Working with and for Families: participating in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per year; communicating regularly with families about academic and social progress; co‑hosting IEP meetings.
  • Working with and for Colleagues: building and maintaining a strong school culture centered on student achievement; collaborating with colleagues to ensure the success of the school mission; participating in weekly professional development sessions; participating in weekly grade‑level team meetings; inputting academic and behavioral data on the school data management system.

  • Skilled educator with at least one to three years of experience teaching English.
  • Committed to culturally responsive education, standards‑based teaching, and student outcomes.
  • Builds student‑centered learning environments and responds proactively to the academic and social‑emotional needs of students.
  • Proven track record of achieving academic success with a diverse student body.
  • Values aligned and passionate about Salem Academy Charter School’s mission and vision.
  • Brings people together and builds community; recognizes the assets and cultural wealth of all students, families, and staff.
  • Experienced in fostering effective inclusion practices and a safe, positive, respectful classroom and school culture.
  • Committed, collaborative with colleagues and families.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree; demonstrated subject matter competence and a sound understanding of the Common Core; background clearance.
  • Preferred:
    Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTEL (completion required in the first year).
  • Multilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Designed and implemented culturally responsive curriculum.
  • Similar life experiences as students.
  • Excitement about integrating academics with service work.
  • Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all students.
