What You'll Do:

Under the supervision of the Building Principals, the music teacher is responsible for teaching music education to pupils in grades 4-12 and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps pupils grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing instruments, and listening.

The music teacher also performs other duties directly related to this job description.

Role Responsibilities:

This position is an itinerant position. Access to reliable transportation is required as the candidate is expected to travel between the city's 6 elementary schools, middle school, and high school.

* Creates a safe and welcoming learning environment with engaging lessons and activities as part of a skills-based, comprehensive band program that meets the needs of diverse learners.

* establishes positive relationships with students and their families

* Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each pupil and instrument specialty. Encourages students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible by developing lessons and activities that meet the needs of diverse learners.

* Co-teaches elementary and middle school band classes.

* Collaborates with the instrumental music team to select and utilize a repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional, multicultural, and contemporary styles that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.

* Collaborates with the instrumental music team to plan and deliver school-based and district wide concerts throughout the year.

* Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.

* Evaluates each pupil's musical growth, performance, and musical understanding. Assesses each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.

Job Requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree Required;
Master's Degree preferred

* Appropriate Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure is required.

* Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice

* Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency a plus
