Day to day as a Counselor

As a Full-Time Counselor with Family Resources Inc., you will play a crucial role in providing essential counseling services to youth and families in both shelter and community settings. Your responsibilities will include helping clients identify challenges and develop effective solutions through a comprehensive approach that involves assessment, planning, case management, and various counseling formats—individual, family, and group sessions. With an active caseload, you’ll maintain regular contact with clients, ensuring they receive the personalized support they need.

While services are typically delivered at your assigned location, you may also have the opportunity to engage with clients at off-site locations, expanding your impact in the community. This position not only allows you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those you serve, but also fosters your growth as a committed professional in the social services sector.

To thrive as a Full-Time Counselor at Family Resources Inc., a diverse skill set is essential. You must possess the ability to assess familial problems critically and develop tailored intervention strategies that effectively address clients' needs. A strong knowledge of social services referral systems is crucial, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred to better serve our community.

Your professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion is paramount. Clear and effective communication, both orally and in writing, will enable you to build and maintain productive working relationships with clients from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Familiarity with issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity is essential, along with a strong capacity for organization and sound judgment.

A Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field, coupled with at least two years of post-graduate counseling experience, will further equip you to provide impactful services to those in need.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • • Ability to assess familial problems and assist in developing intervention strategies.
  • • Knowledge of social services referral systems.
  • • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred
