SummaryOperate refuse crane to maintain proper refuse flow to operating boilers and to control pit management. Responsibilities include monitoring, lubricating, inspecting, and cleaning refuse crane.
Essential Functions- Operate crane smoothly to prevent excessive grapple swings, eliminate cable jerking, and reduce wear on electrical and mechanical parts.
- Thoroughly mix refuse before feeding to boilers to ensure proper combustion and minimize arches.
- Close bays in a timely manner and stack refuse to properly control pit management.
- Maintain a trench along the tipping floor to facilitate the delivery of refuse from trucks.
- Operate, monitor, and clean refuse cranes and related area to avoid arches from boiler feeder.
- Perform timely and complete crane inspections each shift.
- Record and log inspection data such as cable cuts and service length of cables to identify recurring problems.
- Complete required lubrication of all grease points on the cranes and grapples.
- Maintain the crane control room and the area on and around the crane deck in a clean, neat, and orderly condition at all times.
- Report changing trash conditions to the Plant Operator.
- Train other staff to operate the crane as necessary.
- Have depth perception and fine motor skills to operate cranes smoothly.
- Complete the Corporate and Facility Training Programs within the prescribed time frame.
- Follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards, and report them to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Read, understand, and apply lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analysis, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Work overtime.
- Work rotating shifts.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, as well as via intercom, radio, or face-to-face.
- Anticipate typical problems, identify potential or recurring problems, and take appropriate action. Troubleshoot equipment and assist in diagnosing problem areas.
- Operate other equipment including industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.
- Perform other duties as requested.
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
- Mechanical skills sufficient to perform routine tasks such as replacement of becket pins, cable cuts and changes, equipment inspections, and preventive maintenance.
- Perform job duties within prescribed standards. Minimal supervision necessary once varied tasks are mastered.
