The Public Safety / Security Captain will serve as a senior-level manager in the Public Safety / Security Department.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of security operations to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and assets within the facility.
  • Manage security personnel, coordinate emergency response, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and develop strategies to maintain a secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Act as a key leader in promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and preparedness.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Possession of Florida Security “D” License; must obtain license within the first 180 days of employment and renew biannually.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in security management, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Previous senior level supervisory experience is required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain any required endorsements or certifications.

As part of the pre‑employment process, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and a Samba Safety risk assessment will be conducted.

  • Candidates must have no more than 5 points on their MVR.
  • Candidates must also have no more than 8 points from driving‑related infractions, violations, convictions or no more than 15 or more points resulting from any type of non‑valid license status (expired, suspended, etc.) on their Samba risk assessment.

Please note:

both checks are completed separately and not meeting either requirement will result in disqualification from the pre‑boarding process, regardless of the result.

Samba Safety is a third‑party system that evaluates overall driving risk based on license status, violations, and driving history. Employees in positions requiring driving privileges are subject to ongoing monitoring through the Samba Safety continuous driver record monitoring program. This ensures compliance with institutional and safety standards throughout employment.

  • Successful completion of post‑hire entry training course, including but not limited to: CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, and de‑escalation. Must maintain certification requirements.
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Supervisor Level Certification required.
  • Possession of relevant certifications, licenses, or credentials in security, emergency management, or healthcare security, as required by state regulations or facility policies.

Salary Range: Minimum $33.20/hour – Maximum $53.13/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
