The FCC Environmental – Pinellas County Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility is currently seeking an Auxiliary Operator to monitor and operate the WTE air pollution control equipment and municipal solid waste post‑combustion ash conveyance and conditioning systems. Duties include monitoring, operations, maintenance, and housekeeping of system components such as the baghouse, spray dryer absorber, ash‑collection hoppers, dump valves, ash dischargers, vibratory conveyors, ash transfer drag conveyors, and ash conditioning systems.
The operator routinely conducts equipment operations inspections and adjustments for proper, safe, compliant, and efficient air pollution control, ash conditioning, and ash handling operations. The role also involves maintenance, housekeeping, and minor repairs to air pollution control, ash conditioning, and ash handling systems and other assigned auxiliary systems.
- Monitor and inspect various WTE boiler combustion and air pollution control (APC) system auxiliary equipment, including riddle conveyance and ash dischargers, vibratory conveyors, belt conveyors, ash conditioners/mixers, fabric filter and spray dryer absorber (SDA) ash conveyance, lime slurry slaker systems and slurry fluid systems, pumps, 2‑fluid injection lances and other auxiliary equipment associated with air emissions control and post‑combustion ash handling and conditioning.
- Document shift logs and round sheets; comment on ongoing shifts to track problems, out‑of‑service components, and work that needs to be performed.
- Operate designated components of the facility APC system safely and accurately, complying with all facility safety and health programs and procedures.
- Adjust and service assigned components of the APC and ash handling and conditioning systems to maintain continuous and efficient air and solid waste permit compliance.
- Conduct comprehensive equipment “rounds” and system operations inspections as per established procedures.
- Initiate starting, stopping, and adjustment of systems and components as directed by the control room operator and/or shift supervisor.
- Complete emergent and assigned tasks identified by the shift supervisor.
- Treat equipment upset conditions immediately per training and established procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance on ash handling and APC system components per scheduled frequency and as needed due to upset conditions.
- Work closely with maintenance to troubleshoot problems and assess probable causes with assistance from staff.
- Maintain work areas in a clean, neat, and organized condition at all times.
- Complete the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the prescribed time frame.
- Read and interpret measurements from meters, gauges, visual assessments, and industrial measuring tools to identify trends and/or potential equipment disruptions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, using the intercom system, two‑way radio, or face‑to‑face.
- Anticipate typical problems, identify potential or recurring issues, and take appropriate action.
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
- At least 2 years of experience in power plant operations or related field.
- Knowledge and understanding of operating a steam‑generating power plant.
- Mechanical abilities sufficient to perform minor equipment maintenance such as shear pin replacement, drive belt replacement, rebuilds of 2‑fluid lances, conveyor alignment/adjustment, removal of inspection covers, and removal of entangled or plugged material.
